Launched in October 2021, The Circular is a weekly newsletter from the SRB that keeps the best new Australian non-fiction in circulation; essays, interviews, reviews, features and more. Each week we dispatch a newsletter highlighting interesting, useful and surprising non-fiction published by and about Australian writers.

To mark five years of the SRB-CA Emerging Critics Fellowships, the SRB and WSRC present a seminar on critical practice and Australian literature. The seminar will feature four past fellowship recipients – Ali Jane Smith, Madeleine Gray and Cher Tan – who will reflect on their experience as critics and the material circumstances that condition critical writing.

Tiffany Tsao will join the SRB team in October as editor of The Circular.

Jazz Money, Roanna Gonsalves, Yves Rees and Fiona Probyn-Rapsey in conversation about the role of writing in generating new knowledge and understandings around gender, and how writing can reshape public discourses about gender and culture, especially in its capacity to explore cultural testimony, embodied experience, alternative histories, and future worlds.

We’re thrilled to announce the recipients of the 2021 Juncture Fellowships: Patrick Allington, Louis Klee, May Ngo, Luke Patterson and Oliver Reeson.

These critics will each contribute six review essays to the SRB program over the coming twelve months, work that will enrich and expand the public conversation about literature and literary culture.

We’re thrilled to share some news about an SRB project that has been in the works for most of 2021. We’re calling it The Circular, and it will be an aggregator that keeps the best new Australian non-fiction in circulation; essays, interviews, reviews, features and more.

The Circular editor will be responsible for collating a weekly newsletter of the most interesting, useful and surprising recent non-fiction published by and about Australian writers.

The SRB and Cementa Inc. are seeking proposals from regional writers in NSW to develop essays for online publication on the SRB.
