Misyaf
Parramatta: A Dictionary of Place and Memory - M
If we go back far enough, the Kassab family moved from Misyaf in Syria to the north of Lebanon.
It requires a lot of leisure time to establish family genealogies and rumour has it that the splitting of the Kassabs happened sometime in the 1800s.
The Kassabs who left Lebanon did so during the civil war.
It was meant to be temporary and decades later here we are.
Most of the family moved either to Sydney or Melbourne, settling in migrant areas.
If we go back even further, another rumour has it that part of the family originated in what’s known as modern day Iraq.
