The SRB was launched in 2013 as a new space for critics and essayists to shape a public discourse about Australian literature. Since then, we’ve published over a thousand articles by Australia’s best critics and writers. Our entire archive of reviews, essays, and interviews remains open-access.

There are now fewer platforms for serious critical engagement with Australian and international literature in this country – and the resources available to fund critical writing have diminished too. Even though the SRB has never been more important, the scarcity and unpredictability of public funding restrict the scope of our program and forward planning.

We love what we do and we’re proud of the reputation we’ve built.  We want to maintain a vigorous, relevant program in the years to come – and we are committed to keeping the SRB open-access.

We ask readers to consider making a tax-deductible donation to the SRB. Donations provide a vital safety net for the journal, allowing us to keep the SRB free for all readers and to pay our writers what they deserve.

All donations made to the journal are processed by Western Sydney University and are tax deductible. If you have any questions about the process, please email us at editor@sydneyreviewofbooks.com.
