Parramatta: A Dictionary of Place and Memory - M

I do a compare and contrast of Australia and Lebanon.

Here people move homes frequently, jobs, outfits, and living arrangements revamped due to personal preference or else necessity.

In Lebanon, where a person is born is likely where a person will die.

Why do I think of this now?

In connection with Parramatta and its surrounds, there seem to be two categories: those who left the community and those who stayed.

The latter group found ways to work in their community. Some of what has been taken is given back. I don’t just mean in the monetary sense. It is time, energy and attention, an eye towards smoothing a bump out of another person’s path.
