New Author

Parramatta: A Dictionary of Place and Memory - N

Usually if I am reading a new author, I’ll borrow the first book from the library.

If I like it, I will then seek out the author’s other works, buying them as I find them, building for each author I love a little shrine.

I seek out the complete works gradually.

As a completionist, I’ve sought all of Joan Didion, Jean Rhys, Roberto Bolaño, Jorge Luis Borges, Clarice Lispector, Shirley Hazzard, Sylvia Plath, Octavia Butler, and Christopher Pike.

Angela Carter is almost complete as is James Baldwin. I have all the books of Marjane Satrapi and so many versions of the Arabian Nights.

There is nothing as beautiful as discovering a new author who has an extensive back catalogue. This in itself is a priceless delight.
