Only Speculative Writers Need Apply

Parramatta: A Dictionary of Place and Memory - O

I have been grouping books.

Here’s one group that comes to mind.

This All Come Back Now, edited by Mykaela Saunders, an anthology of First Nations speculative fiction. There is also Always Will Be, the first collection written by Saunders.

Then The Oddfits series by Tiffany Tsao.

Then there’s Every Version of You by Grace Chan.

Laura Jean McKay writes in speculative realms as does Elizabeth Tan. Smart Ovens for Lonely People is as high on quirk as anything Saunders writes. Then there’s Thyme Travellers: An Anthology of Palestinian Speculative Fiction.

Quirk here is the unusual, the experimental and surreal, the sense of feet having left the earth. It’s the quality I prize most in fiction and upon encountering it, I’m already trying to establish how it was done.
