Orange Sky at the End of the World

When the sky goes orange because of backburning in the mountains, I think that if the world ends, this is what the sky will look like.
Stillness, orange, smoke and then ash.
Right at the end of my Tamworth period, there were the horrendous bushfires that started in September 2019.
Every day after school, there was the heat, smoke and haze that the region couldn’t shake.
I have a distinct memory of driving back from Armidale one weekend and counting the fire trucks going in the opposite direction on the New England Highway.
I hope that this year, with the warmth so early, there is not a repeat of that horror fire at the end of 2019 which lasted right into the new year.
