Pigeon in Wood Chips

Parramatta: A Dictionary of Place and Memory - P

In the square there is a pigeon sitting in the wood chips surrounding a tree.

The pigeon has lowered itself on its legs so that it resembles the Sphinx.

When I was young in Lebanon, I kept pigeons at a time when my family had an incredible menagerie.

Cows, sheep, goats, geese, pigeons, a dog and for a while we also had a cat.

One of my favourite photos I have ever taken is of a man releasing pigeons on a rooftop in Tripoli. They were hypnotic to watch from the citadel and their flight across the clear sky was a symphony in motion.

Birds flying in the sky over the city of Tripoli.
