Purple Threads
Parramatta: A Dictionary of Place and Memory - P
One of my favourite books in terms of story structure is Purple Threads by Jeanine Leane.
The back of the book states it’s a collection of stories but Leane’s technique is older and it follows where the thread must go, ignoring the template of a conflict followed by a resolution that is pushed as the entirety of story, a template that has little to do with risk or experimentation or inventiveness.
Purple Threads is a special book and I’m glad it is in the First Nations Classics series from UQP. Otherwise, it is unlikely that Purple Threads, along with the other books in the Classics range, would have caught my eye.
