Parramatta: A Dictionary of Place and Memory - T

A park fence with a sign that reads ‘Parramatta Park’.

Who is in Parramatta Park on Christmas Day?

There are families walking, families picnicking.

There is a couple walking with an umbrella to protect themselves from the sun.

There are the cyclists, there are people with their pets.

I have so many memories here. My favourite day in Parramatta is a Sunday because the streets have an early morning peace. My favourite time to walk in this park is the late afternoon.

To watch a car pass, or even the train, is to think of a landscape painting, for humans to be turned small again by their surrounds. At a distance, a person walks in slow motion, even the looping car.

I am the centre of the universe is a modern belief but the centre can be wherever we choose for our gaze to turn.
