Julian Meyrick

Julian is Professor of Creative Arts at Flinders University, Artistic Counsel of the State Theatre Company of South Australia and a member of the editorial board of Currency House Press. He is the director of many award-winning theatre productions, including Angela’s Kitchen, which attracted the 2012 Helpmann for Best Australian Work. He has published histories of the Nimrod Theatre and the Melbourne Theatre Company, two Currency House Platform Papers, numerous articles on Australian theatre, culture and cultural policy, and is a regular columnist for The Conversation.

The Two Cultures debate has no right or wrong conclusion. That is, while there are right and wrong things in it, the scope, shape and intensity of the exchange permits no final verdict. It is about beliefs, outlooks, potential, promise, what my father used to call in an admonishing way ‘character’.
