Kobra Sayyadi

Kobra Sayyadi is a recent BA graduate from MQU and an emerging creative from South West Sydney. She is interested in writing, film and cultural journalism. She is a member of the 2023 Fairfield PYT ensemble as a developing playwright and director. Kobra is passionate about community work and is the current President of Saba Group, a youth-led community organisation advocating scholarship and education for the Hazara diaspora in Australia. She is also a regular contributor to the Community Environmental Monitoring blog, a group dedicated to grassroots community activism about air pollution in Australia.

Unveiling through art

Cigdem Aydemir is a Sydney-based contemporary artist whose work primarily engages with the topic of veiling and the way in which Muslim women are commonly depicted and perceived in Australian society. Cigdem draws on her Turkish-Australian heritage and past experiences as a veiled Muslim in Sydney to inform her art practice. Her various installation, performance and video art pieces often explore the social and political nuances surrounding the topic of veiling.
