John Mateer
John Mateer is a writer, curator and poet. Since the 1990s he has contributed to almost all Australian art magazines, as well as to Frieze and Asian Art News. He curated the large scale exhibitions Invisible Genres for the John Curtin Gallery and In Confidence for Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts. Invisible Genres included William Kentridge, Candice Breitz and Wendelien van Oldenbourgh with Australian artists, and In Confidence presented Australian artists alongside the South-East Asian artists Simryn Gill, Hayati Mokhtar and Lynn Lu . His latest books are Invisible Genres: Two Essays on Iconoclasm with Arvi Wattel (Curtin University) and a volume of poems, Joao (Giramondo).
