Came From Nowhere

Parramatta: A Dictionary of Place and Memory - C

This is the documentary by Marc Fennell about the Wanderers.

It is special to relive the early days of the club and how it came about, and to then reflect on what it did for the spirit of Western Sydney.

I still remember the statistic that was shared when the club was first announced. More than half the Socceroos are from Western Sydney or have played in Western Sydney.

That was in 2012. Perhaps that number has now changed with the A-League and the twelve teams across Australia and New Zealand.

It’d be interesting if the Matildas were tallied as well. My sense is that they originate from right across the country. Of course I may well be wrong.

Another early Wanderers number. There are more than 180 languages spoken in Western Sydney.

 180. It’s a number to marvel at.

This is the detail about the region that most stands out.

Language, culture, people from all walks of life.

It’s the critical point underpinning all the other critical points that make me love this place and this club so much.
