Ten Smalls

Parramatta: A Dictionary of Place and Memory - T

How to keep creative momentum?

Keep the approach small, keep the approach humble.

Rome wasn’t written in a day.

A novel is not created in a day.

A smart-ass writer, when asked how he writes his books, said a word at a time.

Sometimes in the stucks, I remind myself a word at a time, a task at a time.

As an exercise in propulsion, list ten tiny things you can do towards your creative projects.

Then go do them one at a time.

Julia Cameron recommends this tiny list. I like it because it is humble and achievable. Because it is so low-risk, it is also doable.

The key is to not freak yourself out. It is steadiness, it is life on the ground.

What works for the creative also works for life.
