I go chasing shade in the summertime. It does not matter that I have my straw hat wherever I go.
There are streets I choose for my walks, others I avoid because there’s an instant difference between walking in the sun vs being able to stay in the shade.
There are whole spaces exposed to the sun that send me on lengthy detours.
The first chase is for shade. The second is for water. There are places to fill a water bottle, most of them situated around Parramatta Square.
Just once I saw a mister working on Phillip Street. There is a research paper on how Western Sydney can use trees and fountains to cool the area down.
My favourite street is Horwood Place. There is another street in North Parramatta that is even leafier.
The difference between unshaded and shaded has consistently been measured to be ten degrees.
